Chasing Sunsets: The Most Scenic Spots in Cape Town

There is nothing more spectacular than that glorious time of the evening when the sun dips below the horizon, casting shades of orange, pink and crimson across the sky. Golden hour in Cape Town is pure magic. At O’Two Hotel, we’re suckers for a good sunset so we’re helping you uncover Cape Town’s most breathtaking views where you can immerse yourself in the splendour of nature:

1. Table Mountain

Enjoy a sunset picnic atop this iconic landmark with panoramic views of the city, ocean and surrounding landscapes.

Hiking up the mountain is free and typically requires around 2 hours for a moderately fit individual to reach the summit. Alternatively, you can opt for an equally unforgettable experience by choosing the renowned Cable Car for a round trip.

Then again, why not do both? Take an adventurous trek up to the top and buy a one-way ticket back down again. Always check the website beforehand to ensure the Cableway is open as its operation is highly dependent on weather conditions.

This is one thing that should definitely be on the top of your to-do list!

2. Clifton Beaches

Choose any of the four beautiful Clifton beaches for the beachfront sunset picnic of your dreams!

Nestled along Cape Town’s captivating coastline, the Clifton Beaches are a haven for those seeking the perfect sunset. Clifton Beaches provide an blissful backdrop bound to mesmerise and amaze. Whether you’re lounging on the soft sand or dipping your toes in the gentle (admittedly icy) water, the view is nothing short of gorgeous.

3. Camps Bay Strip

If you’re looking for a seamless combination of vibrant energy and beauty, look no further than the Camps Bay strip. Take a leisurely stroll along the beach front or book a table at one of the many trendy dining spots for a world-class meal. There are countless rooftop bars that offer a front row seat to the awe-inspiring horizon (PLUS you can enjoy a cocktail while doing so), what more could you ask for?

A top tip is to always book ahead! Cape Town is very busy during the summer months so reserving a rooftop/balcony table is absolutely crucial to guaranteeing your spot.

Some of our favourites include Chinchilla Rooftop Cafe and Bar, Bilboa and Tiger’s Milk.

4. Lion’s Head

One of the most popular sites for idyllic sunset viewing, Lion’s Head is frequented daily by both locals and tourists. The view from the top is picturesque. The ascent takes a little over an hour (depending on how fit you are/how long you spend stopping to snap some pics) and is both challenging and rewarding. Lion’s Head is unique in the sense that it allows you to witness 360-degree views of the Mother City all while enjoying the reward of the glowing sunset.

Definitely one not to be missed!

5. O’Two

When you stay at the O’Two Hotel, the best part is that you don’t actually have to travel very far to see the sunset. Our rooftop boasts a glistening pool surrounded by sun loungers and a fully-stocked bar, providing the perfect setting to unwind and take in the transition from day to night.

Not to be biassed but we can proudly declare that Cape Town’s sunsets reign supreme. Our city is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to breathtaking landscapes, ranging from the mountains to the golden beaches and beyond. Each evening, as the sun begins to disappear, Cape Town promises an unrivalled spectacle that begs you to fill up your camera roll.

Don’t just take our word for it, book your stay and come and see for yourself!
